Sports Science

Aim: What is the point of this class? The point of this class was to see where we are at in fitness in general and how we could try and improve.

Method: What were the tests? There were about 11 tests and it included:

- Strength - We had to hang on bar to see how long we would last

- Muscular Endurance - We had to do plank

- Cardiovascular Fitness - We had to do a beep test

- Body Composition - We had to measure our height and weight to see if we are overweight, underweight or average for our age

- Flexibility - We had to try and reach our toes or how far it could reach past our toes.

- Agility - We had to time ourselves on how fast we could finish an agility obstacle course

- Coordination - We had to throw a ball on a wall with one hand and catch it with the other

- Reaction Time - We had to drop a ruler and try to catch it and see how fast we could catch it

- Speed - We had to do a 30m sprint

- Power - We had to jump as high as we could

- Balance - We had to balance with one leg on our toes

Social Studies Run Through

Hello everyone today I will be sharing a few work that some of my classmates and I have done during the past term for social studies.

One of the first things we've learnt that's about human rights was the story of Iqbal Masih and how he was a victim of child slavery to pay off a debt that his family had.

Below is an activity we have done about Iqbal Masih and we had to fill up the blank spaces in the story.

Here is the template for the activity if you want to give it a go. Link

Iqbal Masih’s story

Iqbal’s mother received a loan of 5000 rupees in Iqbal’s name  from his employer, (about $NZ200) after Iqbal had been working in a carpet factory in Pakistan for two years.  To repay the loan  Iqbal had to work up to 12 hours a day, six days a week on a carpet loom.  He was malnourished and often beaten. After six years of hard labour the debt had increased to 13000 rupees (NZ$518). In 1992, when he was 10 years old, Iqbal attended a meeting of the Bonded Labour Liberation Front (BLLF). Where, inspired by what he heard, he gave an impassioned speech about his life.  During the meeting he learnt about his rights and, with the help of a BLLF lawyer, drafted a letter of freedom, which he gave to the owner.  He never returned to the carpet factory. Instead, freedom inspired Iqbal to campaign for the human rights of other children caught in the trap of bonded labour.  For the next two years, he spoke out, campaigned and lobbied for an end to bondage, estimated to affect more than half a million children in Pakistan alone.

As Iqbal’s campaigning and profile increased, he started to receive more threats to his life. Such was his dedication and commitment, Iqbal refused to stop his campaigning.  In April 1995 while cycling near his home town, he was shot dead.

The suspicious circumstances surrounding his death fits a pattern of collusion between powerful business families, political groups and local police authorities, which has resulted in other threats and killings.  Despite an initial invistigation, Iqbal’s murder remains unsolved.

Along the way we have also been learning different techniques to help us note down some important things. One of the techniques we've learnt on how to note was called the 'Dot Jot Method'. To do the dot jot method all you have to do is have bullet points and note down the key or main information about the topic you are focusing on.

We've also learned about referencing and how we should give proper credit to the people, websites, articles, ect. that we get information about a certain topic from. Here is the website that we've been using to help us reference.

Here is a slide that a few of my classmates have made about human rights, it is only a few of the human rights and it is still unfinished but the human rights included in this slides are all very important.

Another group task that we had to do was to make our own political party that would help the people. The name of our political party was 'Youth Workers Party' and there we focused on how to help students with their school life and how everyone should get a job.

Here is the doc of our policies that our party focused on.

Social Studies has been fun for me this year since I had the chance to learn about the things that has happened throughout history including the 'Black Death' and the 'Invasion of Parihaka'. It has also been fun learning new techniques like how to note, map and reference.

Science Report

Aim: The aim of our project is to draw our own house and plan and figuring out the total current of our house.

Method: Each bulb contains 25ohms so to find the current I had to divide the number of voltage which was 200V by 25 since a bulb contains 25ohms. But in some of the rooms had more than one bulb so the number of volts had to be divided depending on the number of bulbs a room has. So to find the current I first had to divide the number of volts by how many my bulbs were ,for example if I had 4 bulbs in a room I would divide 200 by 4 and that would equal to 50 now to find the current you now need to divide 50 by 25 which is the number of ohms a bulb has and that would equal to 8. So if a room that has 4 bulbs that contains 25ohms and 200 voltage running through the house the current of that room would have 8amps.

Results: The total current running through my house were 24Amps while having 5 rooms and 12 bulbs in my house.

ESOL

For this term in  ESOL we have done a lot of fun and interesting things and one of the lessons that I enjoyed was when we watched this movie called Penguin, it was a story about a family and a bird named Penguin I liked it because it was very entertaining though some of the parts were very emotional which made me a little sad. One of the things I also enjoyed doing in ESOL class is when we get to read short stories because you could learn quite a few things and it was as well entertaining. Playing tons of kahoots was also one of my favourite activities we've done in ESOL because we could see how much we've actually learned about the topic we were focusing on and it's also fun to compete with your friends and try to be on the podium.

If I would ever be proud of a work I've done in ESOL it'd be the presentation I made about Paralympics and some paralympians with some of their achievements this is because I am really into sports and athletics. But if there was one thing I could do differently to do better in ESOL is that I should listen to the teacher more carefully and finish the assigned works for me.

BADMINTON BLOGPOST

For the past few weeks we have been playing badminton and we are learning the rules and how to play the game so on this blog post I will be sharing with you all the things that I've learned during the last few weeks of playing the game.

You can play badminton in singles or pairs and you will need a racket for each person to hit the shuttlecock which is the ball. Hit the shuttlecock to other side and when it hits the ground on the other side you will get a point but if you don't get it over your side your opponent gets the point and they will also get the point if you hit the shuttlecock more than once. You will also lose a point if you hit the shuttlecock outside of the box but if your opponent does this you will get the point. And to serve you must hit it the shuttlecock with your racket to go to your opponents side but if you fail to get it over your side your opponent gets the point.

PHYSICS RECAP

Hello everyone today I will be sharing some of the main experiments that we did for physics this term and as well last term.

Some of the few main activities that we did for physics last term was dissecting animals and learning about their organs and their purpose. The first animal we dissected was a part of a chicken, and it was its legs. We studied its tendons and how it was connecting from bone to muscles, my group tried looking for its ligaments but we had no idea where to find it. The last animal we dissected was a rat and this was probably the most sickening thing we did for physics this year. We had to cut its stomach open and had a chance to study its stomach on inside. My group and I were probably a bit gruesome on the rat since we cut off its head and arms.

Another experiment we did (which I didn't know the name of) where you had to make a container that could contain water in it and after that we had to place the container with the water inside it on top of a Bunsen burner. and we timed how long it stood on the Bunsen burner without it catching on fire. Our one only took about 12 seconds to burn which was really bad. But the other group that did it lasted for 5 or even 6 minutes without it catching on fire on top of a Bunsen burner.

RUBBER CUP GAME

Hello everyone,

Today I will be sharing a game that I've learnt last week with you. It is a rubber band cup game, to play this game you will need a few cups that can stack up to a triangle shape and a rubber band with strings around it so everyone in your team needs to have a string. Using the band with the strings attached to it your team will have to stack the cups into a triangle using the rubber band.

Shark Infested Custard Game

 Kia Ora,

Today on Monday for health we played a game called Shark Infested Custard Game. To play this game you would need about 5 to 6 people in a group. And you will also need 3 hoops to play this game, this is a competition so you will be racing with other groups to get to the finish line. So basically how you play is you have to put the hoops down on the floor then get inside the hoop with your team without falling off. Then you just have to put the hoops down, get in and try to reach the other end first.

My 100 Word Story

 Kia Ora,

Today for this week in ESOL we have been focusing on writing and some of the writing challenges we have done is called the 100 word story. A 100 word story is basically what the name suggests, you write a 100 word story. But your story needs to have exactly 100 words you can't get it over 100 or under, even if its 99 or 101.

Below is the 100 word story that I have made about speaking in front of the whole class and how I fell about it.

Speaking in front of the whole class is one of my greatest fears. This is because I am really shy and I get really nervous whenever I stand in front of a class whether I know the people or not. I also get pressured when I stand in front of a class because it’s like they are waiting for me to speak or speak faster so that really prevents me from speaking properly. Another reason why I might be nervous and scared is because my friends might be watching me and get teased for it. And those are the reasons.

DILUTING EXPERIMENT

Which test tube had the most concentrated sample of Copper nitrate? The one who didn't have any water in it and the bluest one of them all.

When we added water what were we doing to the concentrated of the solution? We were diluting it down making the chemical weaker.

Which concentration of copper nitrate formed the most precipitate, why do you think this is the case? I think the first one formed the most precipitate because it was more concentrated and kinda had more chemical than the diluted ones.

DTE IDEASS

For the last 6 weeks on DTE we have been learning a lot of stuff but out main thing we were working on was making a game using gamefroot. Though I was not able to finish my game I had fun in the process on trying to make. I learnt a few stuff I didn't know along the way while making my game like what makes a game fun and not boring.

Here are is a slideshow of my ideas I had for making the game that I made

ESOL

Today in ESOL as soon as we walked inside the classroom all of a sudden without any hints nor warnings our ESOL teacher started reading a novel. I wasn't sure what was going on so I just sat down there listening.

The book seemed to be about a boy named Noah who had two other brother and he was the oldest of the three. His mom and dad where moving all the time from Kenya and later returned to Africa. Noah told his father that he wanted to be a photographer at the age of thirteen.

That is all that I have heard from the story during ESOL. My prediction is that maybe Noah will face challenges during his life until he bcame a photographer.

ESOLLL

 Greetings,

Today I will be sharing you three things that I have found very fun in ESOL this term. The first thing is doing kahoots I like it because some questions are really interesting and also fun at the same time because you get to compete with your classmates. I also like doing quizzes and playing games to help you with your English or grammar I like this because I also learn new things from it and how to properly say a word or how to properly write a sentence.

Two new things that I have learnt during ESOL this term would be the grammar and some new English words that I was not familiar with, like cornucopia and contemplate. I've really learnt loads of things in ESOL and one of the biggest thing that I have learnt was grammar because I wasn't really the best at speaking English that much during a conversation, and our teacher really helped us a lot like where to put the right words on the right part of the sentence and to be honest I am not really sure if this blog post has the right grammar in it.

ESOL FUN

 Kia Ora,

Today I will be sharing some ideas that would make ESOL more fun. Like doing less blogging, maybe not blogging every time we come to class and I think that would make the class like ESOL more than they already do. But the activities during ESOL that I found very fun are doing kahoots and doing quizzes.

150 Word Story

 Greetings everyone,

Today I will be telling you on of the most challenging thing I have ever done in ESOL for this term. And this was about making a story with at least 150 words minimum but we needed to include these three words on our story and this were, contemplate, courageous and cornucopia. This was fun and as well challenging since I didn't know some of the words including contemplate and cornucopia. And this was fun because I had a chance to learn this words that I have never heard of. Overall making this story was fun because I got to write a story which I enjoyed writing.

Here is a story that I have made with only 267 words in total:

It was Monday morning at school where it was quiet, dauntingly quiet. It was the assessment day in Joshua’s class, it was a History test. Joshua was about to contemplate his work sheet as soon as the teacher handed it out but as he was skimming through the test sheet the teacher snatched it off of his hand and faced it down.” We’ll now begin the test, you can now flip up the test sheet” the teacher ordered out. Joshua flipped up the paper so fast wanting to finish it first even though he didn’t like tests.

The first thing he saw first was a printed out image of a cornucopia and questions about it and the history behind it. Joshua knew the answer to some of the questions about cornucopia on the sheet since he was studying last night about it, but he just can’t exactly remember it. He was stuck at the very first question about the cornucopia while he saw his classmates zooming through the test. But he was very courageous and he wanted to finish the work sheet even though he didn’t like doing tests. So he thought deeper in his mind trying to figure out the question about this cornucopia.

Finally he remembered. The pencil on his hand wrote down the answer so fast that the tip of the pencil snapped, but he was happy since he answered the question. He took another pencil out of his bag and quickly went back on the test. Fortunately all the questions were a breeze and he luckily finished the test first and submitted it.

Term 1 Athletics Blog Post

Greetings Everyone,

Here in this blog post you will be able to learn some tips and some of the things I have done for athletics this term.

The athletics activities we have done included shot put, discus, long jump, high jump and as well sprinting. Now I will be sharing you a few tips for each of the activities. For shot put you should use your stronger arm and as your throwing put your leg forward as the same side with the hand your are using to throw with. With discus to get more power I suggest you should use your waist. For long jump you should swing your arms up as you jump to get jump for further. With high jump you should only use 1 foot and do a scissor kick.

My score for each activities:

High jump: 1.35

Long jump: 3.8Usain Bolt record collection: the sprint king's greatest hits

Discus: 11.75

Shot put: 6.68

Overall athletics was fun because I like being active and play sports. And make sure to bring your PE gear everyday or sometimes you would not be able to play but fortunately I was a good boy and brought other shirts if I didn't have my PE shirt.
