Today I will show you some of the discoveries I've learned from gold mining.
This are the things I've learned from articles and the main book that we have read.
First Gold Rush
Gabriel Read was the first who had found gold near the Tuapeka River; he gained fame and provincial government bonuses when he found gold. Thousands of diggers as well as other people like business people and entertainers went all the way to Gabriels Gully hoping to find gold and instantly get rich.
Chinese Miners
In 1866 there were less than 200 Chinese miners in Otago, but by April 1868 the Chinese population had rapidly increased to 1270. BY 1881 the Chinese population reached its peak with just under 5000 miners.
Otago
Otago’s first gold rush was in 1861, after Gabriel Read found gold in what would be called Gabriels Gully. Thousands of diggers, later including men from China, went there to make their fortune.
Here is a really good article about Chinese miners how they helped build New Zealand and how discrimination drove them away. https://www.scmp.com/lifestyle/article/2102620/how-chinese-gold-miners-helped-build-new-zealand-and-how-discrimination

3. Something thoughtful - how have you connected with my learning? Give me some ideas for next time or ask me a question.
