FIRST DTE BLOG

Kia Ora,

For this first DTE blog post I will be telling you a little bit about myself. First of all I'm Miguel and a student here in Hornby High School, some of the things I like to do at school are playing sports or doing athletics and some of the subjects I like at school are Maths and PE.

Now I will be sharing you the things that I have done and learnt in DTE. The thing we are focused on DTE is coding we learnt lots of things about coding and computers in only 4 weeks. We learnt about binary coding and how it only works with two numbers 0 and 1 or on and off, we also used a few websites that helps us learn how to code like, hour of code. We also made an info graphic about relevant implications.

Lastly I will be sharing you my thoughts about DTE and the things we've done in DTE. Overall its been really fun and also challenging at times like when I am introduced on a new thing that I didn't know about and I would have to learn more about it and that made it really challenging and hard for me. And one of the things I liked during our lessons is we get to use the website used to learn how to code because some of the activities there are based on real popular games like Minecraft.

CHRISTMAS CHICKEN LEG OPENING

Kamusta,

Today I will be talking about how we did a chicken leg dissection on physics last week. First of all make sure not to forget all the safety rules before continuing with the dissection this includes: wearing gloves, never put anything in your mouth during the dissection, washing your hands thoroughly at the end of the dissection with hot water and antibacterial soap, spraying surfaces with antibacterial soap, not playing with tools such as a scalpel.

Now I will be sharing some of the hardest and exciting part during the dissection. One of the most challenging part during the dissection would be, is taking the skin off. This was very hard because the skin was almost like glued onto the muscle so we had to use a scalpel to cut through the skin as carefully as we can not trying to cut any muscle tissue. And we finally RIPPED the skin off the chicken though it was hard my partner and I managed to do it.

The hardest thing during the dissection would be cutting across the tendons that joins muscle to bone which was really strong since it is the part that connects your muscle and bone. This made it even harder when we only used our hands to separate the bone and muscle with the tendon strongly attached and holding it together, but this was fun since it helped me learn new things inside a chicken leg which is my favourite food.

The most exciting part for me during the procedure would be separating a bundle of muscle by putting your thumb through the muscle and separating it apart with two hands like opening up a present on Christmas. This was also fun because it made me wanna eat it but unfortunately we threw in the bin afterwards.

Bone - Gives us protection structure and protection

Muscle - Moves our bones

Tendon - Connects muscle to bone

Ligament - Connects muscle to bone

THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO IN THE WEEKENDS

Kamusta, today I will be sharing you what I will do like to do in the weekends.

In the weekends I will most likely practice volleyball with a few of my friends here at Hornby High School at the volleyball court for our upcoming volleyball game on Monday February 22. Which is really exciting because on our first volleyball game we fortunately won with our team all new at the sport. I will as well be practising basketball maybe with my dad to improve a little better to prepare for next term basketball team so that I would be able to join the team.

Since athletics is also arriving on March I would also like to do some exercise if possible such as running, jumping and throwing since the events I will be doing includes those three things. But I absolutely doubt that I could do all of the things above, but one thing is for sure I would be spending quite a little bit of time sticking my head on screens and will be playing those video games.

The last thing I would do is actually finishing my school work and doing some of the homework that my teacher had set for me. IF POSSIBLE.

MATH SHAPE MAKING

 Kia Ora,

Today I will be sharing and as well be showing you the things that my group and I have done in maths.

Our maths teacher Miss B gave us a piece of string that were tied together in both ends which enabled us to create any shape we would like to make. Because our task were to make a shape of our choice using that string, for instance my group and I decided to make a pyramid using that piece of string. The piece of string was kinda big so we had to have 4 people or more in a group.

Here is a photo of the pyramid we've made during period 5 in Math class.

9 ESOL

 Kamusta,

Today I will talk to you about a new strategy that my class and I have learned in ESOL to help us reflect on our learning and share it on our blog. The new strategy we have learned is called 321 RIQ and it stands for 3 recalls 2 insights and 1 question. 3 recalls are basically the same as the 3 things that I've remembered during our last lessons. 2 insights are 2 new things that I've learned during our last lessons. Finally, the 1 question is about a thing that I didn't understand or want to know more about.

During our last few lessons in ESOL. My class and I have done quite a few stuff such as a name game where we had to introduce ourselves with an adjective with the same starting letter as our name and the thing we like, we also had to introduce the people who introduced themselves before us. So we basically had to memorize everyone before us and introduce them It is also very unfortunate if your the last to introduce yourself in this game because you will have to introduce everyone with their adjective and the things they like. We also had to write the benefits of blogging and the advantages of our teachers reading our blogs.

I don't really have a question from out last few lessons.
